We welcomed our first litter of puppies in December 2017, but our journey into breeding began in 2010 when we helped raise the litter of our first family dog, Rocky. Rocky was a 120-pound lab, lovable and dopey and so tolerant of the kids’ antics. Oh, but the shedding! When friends began to breed, my interest grew and when we moved to a larger home we had the space and so I began to research. I wanted a breed that would incorporate everything we loved about Rocky, but a bit more people-focused and not shed, as I had grown tired of the constant fur everywhere no matter how often we cleaned. My research led me to the Australian Labradoodle, sweet, people-focused clowns that don’t shed.
And so, our journey began as first Indie, then Sunshine, and finally Chelsea became our first three breeding girls that year. I dove headfirst into learning everything I could about breeding healthy pups and how to raise them to be well-socialized, great family dogs. We raise our puppies in our home, in the middle of the chaos of homeschooling, soccer practice, friends in and out, and all the joys and craziness of family life. Our oldest is now a married and has added a sweet baby boy to our family and we can’t wait to have baby giggles in the house again.
All three of our first breeding girls have retired and puppies from litters we’ve planned and raised have grown up and taken their places. I have learned there is much value in the various stages along the circle of life. There are many emotions in common between watching my kids begin to launch into life as successful adults and sending puppies off to join their families, with all of the love, attention, and time we’ve poured into them. Each one leaves an imprint on our hearts, long after they’ve grown!
We’ve been blessed with wonderful breeding mentors at Eden Valley and Waltzing Matilda’s Australian Labradoodles. We use the Avidog method for puppy rearing, keeping up with the latest research on everything from diet to medication. Plus, as members of the ALAA professional breeding association, we ensure every litter is carefully selected, registered, and lovingly raised.
Being a small-scale breeder comes with distinct advantages. Each puppy gets ample love, attention, and socialization, creating intelligent, people-oriented dogs ready to transition confidently to their forever homes. We’re excited to be a part of your journey in welcoming an Australian Labradoodle to your family!
